Czech Republic

Motorway vignette – price list, vignette validity, toll roads

To drive on most motorways and expressways in the 1Czech Republic, you need to buy an electronic vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, which is available in three validity periods: 10 days, 30 days and one year, with the start of validity, including the annual vignette, being selectable up to 3 months in advance at the time of purchase. The expected expiry date of the sticker can be checked at the time of purchase. The vignette is compulsory for vehicles with a maximum authorised weight of up to 3.5 tonnes and with at least four wheels, motorcycles and tricycles are free of charge on the motorway. Bypasses and unfinished roads in larger towns are exempt from tolls. A map of toll roads is available on edalnice.cz.

Vignettes for the Czech Republic are sold in electronic form and can be purchased online at edalnice.cz, at points of sale such as Czech Post branches and some petrol stations, as well as at self-service kiosks near border crossings. Online sales of e-vignettes and an overview of sales points can be found at edalnice.cz.

The vignette can be used for one vehicle with a registration number and cannot be transferred to another vehicle. Replacement of the number plate for which the vignette is registered is possible only in the case of incorrect data, within 15 minutes of purchase at the point of sale, via the Internet or at a sales kiosk, and only before the start of the period of validity (edalnice.cz)

The breakdown of vehicles into weight categories is based on the total weight of the vehicle as stated in its technical certificate. When towing a trailer, weights do not add up when determining the toll charging method, one sticker is sufficient for a vehicle weighing up to 3.5 tonnes towing a trailer.

Vehicles powered by electricity or hydrogen are exempt from tolls and can use all roads without a sticker. The CO2 emission limit for combined cycle vehicles is 50 g/km.

The exemption also applies to vehicles carrying certain severely disabled citizens, historic vehicles, vehicles fitted with distinctive lights, certain vehicles used by public administrations and certain vehicles used to assist citizens. The cases in which it is possible to drive on the roads without a sticker are strictly defined and it is recommended to consult the rules on edalnice.cz before applying them.
Detailed information and the application form for exemption from the toll are available on edalnice.cz.
