Motorway vignette Hungary – the most important things to know about using toll roads
Most motorways and roads in Hungary are subject to tolls, and motorcycles, cars and their trailers, lorries with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, buses and coaches, and vehicles and their trailers not subject to tolls under special legislation may only use them with a valid e-vignette.
Information on toll roads can be found on the website nemzetiutdij.hu.
The vignettes are sold in electronic form only and can be purchased online, via the mobile apps and websites of authorised dealers, and at general points of sale such as petrol stations and shops near border crossings.
Before paying the toll vignette fee, the information provided by the customer must be verified.
The e-vignette must be purchased before driving onto the toll road. In the case of an accidental drive onto a toll road section, a bona fide road user has the option to purchase the toll sticker within 60 minutes of the drive.
Motorway vignettes are available with a validity period of 10 days (weekly), months (monthly) and years. Drivers who regularly use only a specific section of motorway can obtain a vignette valid for each county.
