Ireland tolls – information on tolls, toll roads map
Tolls are payable on certain motorways and some tunnels and bridges. Tolls are collected through toll gates where you can pay in cash, with an eToll on-board unit and at some toll gates with a payment card. On the M50 motorway, there is a free-flow system without toll gates, where tolls can be paid via a mobile app, online at eFlow.ie, by phone, Payzone partners or via the on-board unit. Tolls must be paid by 20.00 the next day at the latest and can also be paid in advance. If the toll is not paid by the deadline, a payment notice including a fine will be sent to the vehicle owner’s address.
The eToll system with on-board unit allows you to pass through the toll gates without stopping, to pay the M50 toll automatically without any obstacles and to benefit from reduced toll rates. The on-board unit can be operated in both prepaid and post-paid modes. Information on eToll payment and an overview of on-board unit providers can be found at etoll.ie. For owners of electric, gas or electric hybrid vehicles, there is a Low Emissions Vehicle Toll Incentive (LEVTI) rule which allows them to get up to 75% discount on tolls. To qualify for the discount, a vehicle fitted with an on-board unit authorised under the LEVTI tariff is required. Information on LEVTI can be found on eToll.ie.
In Ireland, persons with reduced mobility can apply for exemption from tolls. Roads can be used without tolls by defence vehicles, police, fire brigades and emergency services. Information on how to apply for exemption can be found on eToll.ie.
